Background: When I arrived at NBA Entertainment’s midtown office it was like a frat house. We worked and played hard… and we loved every minute of it. Our primary responsibilities included producing “NBA Action is FANtastic” promos for national TV broadcasts and all-star videos for CBS Fox.
The Work: In less than four years our team created and launched Inside Stuff, a weekly magazine show for NBC. Then came specials for HBO Sports and lots more.
Results: The NBA became a highly valued brand. Clients couldn’t get enough. So we built an internal advertising agency to service brands like Spaulding, Reebok, Converse, Jeep, Upper Deck trading cards and many more. Even though I’m a Celtics fan, directing and producing Always Showtime, Magic Johnson’s life story, was an amazing experience too.
Biggest Lesson Learned: When shooting celebrities like Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Crystal, Michael Jordan and Woody Harrelson you’ve got to be ready for anything and make every second count. Call me and I’ll share some pretty hilarious stories of how we consistently made miracles happen.
FEEDBACK
“John is open to all ideas. His tremendous abilities as both a writer and designer put him in another category. But the cherry on top of this sundae is his compassion. He puts his heart into his work and backs his team all the way. When JB tells you something, he means it.”
